Which AI Coaching Platform Has the Safest Free Trial?

You've built a successful coaching practice, and now you're ready to scale with an AI digital twin. But as you evaluate platforms like Delphi, Coachvox, and Personify, one concern keeps surfacing: getting locked into a subscription you can't easily escape.

It's a legitimate worry. Some platforms require your credit card upfront for a "free" trial that auto-converts to paid. Others advertise "cancel anytime" but won't refund money you've already paid for an annual plan. A few have disclosure gaps that leave you guessing about the real terms.

I've researched the free trial and cancellation policies for six major AI coaching clone platforms, plus how BuddyPro fits into the picture. Here's what coaches need to know before handing over payment details.

The Real Risk: Forgotten Cancellations and No-Refund Policies

The biggest financial trap isn't necessarily the monthly subscription cost - it's forgetting to cancel a card-backed trial or getting locked into an annual plan you can't exit.

Here's the complete breakdown of trial terms and cancellation policies, based on each platform's pricing and terms pages checked in September 2026:

Platform Free Trial Card Required Auto-Convert Refund Policy Lock-in Risk
Personify Permanent free plan No No No refunds on paid periods Low
Delphi Free plan available Not clearly disclosed No (free doesn't expire) Generally no refunds on paid periods Low on free, moderate on annual
Pickaxe Free tier, no timer No No All purchases final, no refunds Low on free, strict once paid
Rocky.ai 14-day creator trial Unclear / undisclosed Unknown No public creator policy found Unknown - get terms in writing
Coachvox 14-day trial Yes Yes No refunds upon cancellation High
CustomGPT 7-day trial Yes Yes Discretionary, not guaranteed High
BuddyPro No self-serve trial (application-only) N/A N/A N/A N/A - done-for-you build

The safest trial structures belong to Personify, Delphi, and Pickaxe - all offer genuine free tiers without a credit card requirement or an expiration timer. You can test the platform without any billing risk.

The highest accidental-charge risk comes from Coachvox and CustomGPT, both requiring a credit card upfront with automatic conversion to a paid plan if you forget to cancel.

Rocky.ai presents the biggest disclosure problem. It advertises a 14-day creator trial, but its public materials don't clearly state whether a card is required, what happens when the trial ends, or what its refund policy is. For a platform aimed at business coaches building a premium AI product, that lack of transparency is worth pausing on.

Does "Cancel Anytime" Actually Mean You Get a Refund?

Here's where the marketing gets misleading. "Cancel anytime" typically means you can stop the next renewal, not get your money back for time you've already paid for.

Pickaxe has the strictest policy of the group, explicitly stating that all purchases are final and non-refundable, including forgotten cancellations. Coachvox and Delphi generally don't offer refunds for paid periods either. CustomGPT offers a discretionary refund for the current subscription charge, but approval isn't guaranteed - you have to cancel first, then email support and make your case.

The practical takeaway: if you're evaluating multiple platforms, stick with monthly billing until you're sure. Annual plans save you 10-20%, but they also lock you into paying for a full year even if the AI clone doesn't perform the way you hoped.

Per Personify's pricing page, checked September 2026, its Pro plan runs $39/month or $348/year (marketed as $29/month on annual). Per Coachvox's pricing and cancellation pages, checked the same month, its standard plan is $99/month or $83/month billed annually. The annual savings are real. So is the commitment.

The Rocky.ai Disclosure Gap

Rocky.ai deserves a specific callout for having the murkiest trial terms of the six platforms researched. Its site promotes a 14-day free trial for creator and white-label accounts, but several details that matter are missing or buried:

  • Whether the creator trial requires a credit card - unclear from public materials, and the "no credit card required" language that does appear is tied to a separate individual-user trial, not clearly extended to the creator plan
  • What happens when the 14 days end - whether it auto-charges, expires, or requires a manual upgrade decision isn't stated publicly
  • Its refund policy for creators - no public policy was found; Rocky's terms page was last updated August 20, 2024, despite pricing changes since
  • Consistent pricing - creator entry pricing appears as both $29/month and $49/month across different pages

If you're considering Rocky.ai, get the trial terms, first-charge date, and refund policy confirmed in writing from their support team before you hand over any payment details.

Why Trial Terms Are a Small Part of the Real Decision

Trial and cancellation terms matter for managing your own risk while you evaluate. But they're a small piece of the actual decision, which is whether the platform can help you build an AI coach good enough that people pay $1,000-2,000 a year for it and keep coming back.

That's a different evaluation than checking a pricing page. It means looking at:

  • How deep and personalized the AI's coaching actually is, not just whether it can answer questions
  • Whether it has real long-term memory, so it remembers what someone told it months ago and puts advice in context
  • Retention - how many people are still using it daily, weekly, and monthly after the novelty wears off
  • What premium pricing the coaching quality can actually support
  • Whether your intellectual property and your subscribers' conversations stay private

This is where BuddyPro takes a different approach entirely. There's no self-serve free trial - I'll say that plainly, because it's a real trade-off. Instead, my team builds the AI twin for qualified experts through an application-only process, so you're not the one wrestling with technical setup or wondering whether the AI will actually hold someone's attention past the first conversation.

Experts building on BuddyPro generate around $32-35K in recurring revenue on average, with top performers reaching six figures and some approaching seven. Business coaching AI twins specifically see up to 60% daily retention, 80% weekly, and 95% monthly among the most successful ones - the kind of engagement that justifies charging $1-2K a year instead of $20 a month.

The Smarter Way to Evaluate Any of These Platforms

Whichever platform you're leaning toward, start with monthly billing while you're still testing. The savings on an annual plan aren't worth the lock-in risk when you don't yet know how your AI twin will actually perform with real users.

Use the platforms with genuine free tiers - Personify, Delphi, or Pickaxe - to get a feel for the interface and setup process without any billing risk at all. Be deliberate before you hand over card details to Coachvox or CustomGPT, since both convert to a paid, mostly non-refundable subscription automatically. And don't start Rocky.ai's creator trial until its team has answered the open questions above in writing.

None of this replaces the real test, which takes longer than any trial window: uploading your actual knowledge, having real conversations with the AI, and watching whether people come back on their own. A 7-14 day trial barely gets you past setup. The platforms worth committing to are the ones you'd trust with a year of your reputation, not just a free week.
