Before you hand over your email, your content, and a credit card to any AI clone platform, there's one page worth reading slower than the pricing page: the trial and cancellation terms. I've watched coaches sign up for a "free trial," get busy with a launch for two weeks, and wake up to a charge they'd forgotten was coming. On a platform charging $99 a month, or in Delphi's case now $5,000 a year, that's not a small mistake.
So I checked the current terms directly on six platforms experts actually compare when deciding where to build an AI coaching clone: Delphi, Coachvox, Personify, Rocky.ai, CustomGPT, and Pickaxe. Every figure below comes from each platform's own pricing, billing, or terms pages, checked October 31, 2026. Vendor terms change often, so verify directly before you commit money or content.
What Each Platform Actually Offers the Creator (Not Their Subscribers)
This matters because "free trial" gets used two different ways in this space. One is a trial for the creator building the AI clone. The other is a trial the creator later offers their own subscribers once the product is live. This article is about the first one: what you get before you've built or paid for anything.
| Platform | Creator Offer | Card Required | Auto-Charges If You Forget | Refund or Guarantee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delphi | No timed trial. Free $0 plan instead (1M training words) | Not disclosed for Free signup | No (nothing to convert on Free) | None. Paid plans are non-refundable |
| Coachvox | 14 days | Yes | Yes, starts the $99/mo plan | None |
| Personify | No timed trial. Free Forever plan instead (100 msgs/mo) | No | No (nothing to convert on Free) | None, beyond statutory EU/UK cancellation rights |
| Rocky.ai | 14 days (creator/business plans) | Not publicly disclosed | Not publicly disclosed | None publicly disclosed |
| CustomGPT | 7 days (Standard/Premium) | Yes | Yes, automatically | Discretionary only, by request |
| Pickaxe | No timed trial. Free plan instead ($5 usage/30 days) | No | No (nothing to convert on Free) | None, except a narrow outage exception |
| BuddyPro | No free trial. 21-day satisfaction guarantee on the license | Yes | N/A, billing is explicit from day one | 21-day satisfaction guarantee |
A few things jump out once you line these up side by side. Delphi restructured its plans recently: the old sub-$300-a-month tiers are gone from its current pricing, replaced by a $0 Free plan and a $5,000-a-year Scaler plan. If you've read an older comparison article anywhere quoting Delphi at $79 or $299 a month, that information is stale as of this writing. Always check the current page yourself.
What Happens If You Forget to Cancel?
Coachvox and CustomGPT both require a card up front and both will automatically start charging you the moment the trial window closes, no second confirmation. That's the classic "set a calendar reminder or get billed" model. Rocky.ai advertises a 14-day trial prominently but doesn't clearly disclose whether a card is required or what happens at the end of it, which is the kind of gap you should get in writing before you upload a year of coaching content.
Delphi, Personify, and Pickaxe sidestep the forgotten-cancellation problem entirely by not running a timed trial at all. Instead they give you an ongoing, capped Free account: no card, nothing converts automatically, nothing to forget. That sounds safer, and in one narrow sense it is. But it creates a different problem, and it's the one that actually matters if you're serious about this.
Why a Crippled Free Plan Isn't a Real Test of Whether AI Coaching Works for Your Audience
Personify's Free plan caps you at 100 AI messages a month and 10 knowledge sources. Pickaxe's Free plan gives you $5 of usage every 30 days and three knowledge-base files. Those numbers are fine for poking around a dashboard. They are not enough to see how an AI clone actually performs once it's trained on your real methodology and talking to real people with real problems.
Here's the part worth sitting with: if you use a stripped-down free account as your test of "does AI coaching work for my audience," and the answers come back shallow because the knowledge base is capped at three files, you don't conclude "this specific free tier was too limited." You conclude "AI coaching doesn't work for me." That's a permanent decision made on a temporary, deliberately weak product. It's the AI equivalent of trying one scoop of bad ice cream and deciding you don't like ice cream.
This is also why retention data matters more than trial length when you're evaluating a platform. A platform that lets you poke at a toy version for free tells you very little about whether real subscribers will come back daily once they're paying $1,000 to $2,000 a year for genuine access.
Where BuddyPro Fits Into the Trial Question
To be straightforward about where BuddyPro sits here: there's no timed free trial and no capped free account for the creator building on BuddyPro. The license runs $197 a month, or $164 a month on annual billing, and it comes with a 21-day satisfaction guarantee instead of a trial window. That's a real trade-off, not a marketing spin. It's a premium platform built for experts who are already past the "does this concept work" question and want to launch a product that can carry $1,000 to $2,000-a-year pricing, and that upfront commitment also delivers substantially higher profit margins once you're live, since you keep 100% of the profit after covering subscriber AI usage.
A separate, related thing some experts on BuddyPro do once they're already live: they offer their own subscribers a two-week, no-credit-card trial of the finished AI twin. That's an approach that works well specifically with an audience that's already invested, existing paying clients or a warm list who already trust the expert. It's not the entry point to the platform itself, and it's not the default way most launches happen; most experts sell through a webinar to their existing audience instead, walking through the value and comparing it to the cost of 1:1 access.
If you're choosing a platform purely on "can I try before I commit," the honest answer is that Delphi, Personify, and Pickaxe let you poke at a free, capped version, Coachvox and CustomGPT give you a real but ticking trial window with a card on file, and BuddyPro asks you to commit and backs that with a satisfaction guarantee instead. None of these is free of trade-offs. What a serious evaluation actually needs is less about trial length and more about whether the underlying AI can hold a real coaching conversation well enough that people pay premium prices to keep talking to it.
The Takeaway
Read the billing terms before you upload a single file, not after. If a platform requires a card for its trial, know the exact day you'll be charged. If a platform instead gives you an ongoing free account, know exactly how limited it is, and don't mistake a shallow experience on a capped free tier for a verdict on AI coaching itself. The platforms worth building on are the ones whose paid, full-strength product is good enough that the trial question becomes secondary to the results.
